Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Construction workers. Bricklayers. Roofers. Cement Finishers.
As the largest Title I school in Texas where the average income for a family of three is is low, these are the most common summer jobs that my student-athletes have to do in order to pay for basic necessities.
We are a successful soccer program that many times has to struggle to raise funds from a community that most of the time is not able to support financially. It is difficult to pay for equipment when many of our kids and their families are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey as well.
Every year we have soccer kids that are consistently in the Top 5% of their class and involved in organizations such as National Honor Society, Interact Club, and Student Council. I coach hard-working young men that are not only great athletes but also dedicated students. My hope is that they have equal opportunities to be successful. The additional equipment would prove to them that their hard work both on and off the field does pay off.
My Project
These particular soccer balls will be used during games throughout our season. Sometimes the ones we use get scuff marks from every day use so these will be used exclusively for our games. You'd be surprised how big of an impact a new soccer ball has on the young men that we coach. They get excited over anything that is new, so we hope to have these game balls funded so they can continue to be confident that the hard work they go through is worth it.
