My students need new clothes and shoes and food to start the new year with confidence. The sneakers and rain jackets will keep them warm through the chilly San Francisco winters (and fall, and spring!).
With over 500 students who qualify for free and reduced-price school lunch, our middle school has a diverse population of amazingly creative, funny, quirky, incredible kids.
Middle school is a time of self-consciousness for students and finding out more about themselves.
An important part of their journey is to feel like they fit in. With the cold, rainy weather, families often do not have the resources to provide sturdy shoes and rain gear for their children.
Many of our students take the bus for over an hour to get across town to come to school. They and their families are amazingly committed to learning despite challenges of poverty, community violence, and fatigue.
Through these resources, we hope to facilitate their physical, social, and emotional growth and learning while encouraging self-confidence.
My Project
As you can imagine, youth grow out of their clothes very quickly, particularly shoes! Many of our students have their toes sticking out of their shoes and it becomes a difficult expense to keep up with for many families.
Let's help our students feel confident and full with new clothes and snacks at the start of the school year.
The weather can be quite chilly in San Francisco. Several students came by for jackets after we got the last Donors Choose project funded but we had (un)fortunately passed out all of jackets by the time they came by! :(
The Wellness Center provides snacks for students throughout the year and our youth can consume a lot of food! The dry erase markers and other markers are used for Wellness Groups and student support programs.
