Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten classroom is full of readers popping up! I teach full day kindergarten at a public school in a high poverty neighborhood in northern Illinois. I teach 30 students from diverse cultural backgrounds with differing learning styles in a general education classroom.
My kindergarten students are eager for every chance to look through books and talk about their experiences in the world around them. They have recently discovered an interest in nonfiction texts. However, at this time our classroom library lacks these resources.
This donation will help my students become better young readers simply with the exposure to the nonfiction texts on current events. Our classroom will need class subscriptions to Weekly Readers and Time for Kids magazines. The topics in these resources are interesting and meaningful to my students, which will motivate them to choose and enjoy nonfiction books as they grow as readers. My kindergarten students will also be able to take home their subscription and talk about current events with their families.
You will make it possible for my students to experience complex current events at their level. You will also make it possible for my students to grow and love to read a new genre. Further, you will help to ensure that my students can share these events with their families, which can make a difference one day.
TIME For Kids Magazine- Big Picture Edition (grades K-1). Pricing is valid for orders placed after March 2008. After August 15th of current school year, pricing will remain in effect but TIME For Kids reserves the right to prorate issue quantity and free gifts. Only valid for orders in quantities of 10 or more. Orders for less than 10 subscriptions will NOT be fulfilled.
