Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We repeat every day: I am smart, I am strong, I am somebody, I was somebody when I came here, and I'll be a better somebody when I leave! We have to believe it to achieve it!

My eighth grade students are excited about reading, however, the book selections in my classroom do not excite them!

They have requested titles that relate to their lives, as well as genres they are interested in. My students want to have fun reading and learning, and many desire to be engaged through texts and lessons. This project will help me meet their needs.

My Project

Students will be reading books in their enrichment and intervention groups. They will also use these books for independent reading to boost reading stamina. Students will create projects related to the books they have read. We often read independently twice a week for 20 minutes. Students complete a reading journal after each reading.

You have heard that reading broadens our minds and expands our horizons.

Some of my children may never leave the streets of Bridgeport. Reading will offer them a gateway to what is out there in our world, and even our universe!
