Our students are special because they live in a small, rural, forest community. They can look outside and see turkeys running on the grass, cows in the fields, squirrels in the trees, and birds nesting near our windows. Our students are lucky to live in a supportive community that is fairly small, so they do not go unnoticed.
Sadly, our schools are continually receiving less money toward student education.
As a long time teacher, I am motivated to provide my classroom with as many opportunities as possible. Each year student needs increase academically, socially, and financially.
What our students do have, is fresh air and beautiful scenery around them. I would like to use that to enhance their education to its fullest.
My Project
I have spent many years discussing books with my third grade students. I have learned about a variety of book series by raising my own children. It is amazing how different students are with the types of books that motivate them to read.
I am always on the look out for a new series that gets my students interested in books.
So this year, I am finding the Branches reading series by Scholastic, are a huge hit. They have a large variety of books for boys and girls. I always look for these books at our school book fairs and Scholastic book orders, but can never quite get enough for my students.
