My students need the astronomy materials and the magnet materials to enhance their study in Earth Science.
Earth Science is an exciting, yet widely misunderstood subject for our middle school student. We have no opportunities in our area to visit an observatory.
Our school is located in Arkansas.
We are a middle level building housing 6th - 8th grades. My students attend eight grad in a a school that is in a rural setting. Over 50% of the student population receive free or reduced price meals. A large majority of my students come from homes that live below the poverty level. My students are inquisitive and anxious to learn new information. They are very tactile in their learning type.
I am requesting materials that will be used in the study of space science and in a unit discovering magnetism. I believe their knowledge will be greatly increased if they can use these types of hands-on materials. Where our school is located it is not feasible to visit an observatory or a museum.
An old Chinese Proverb says, "I hear and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand." My students will be very happy to use this material for class activities.
This project will make the understanding of space and magnetism much more relevant to the students.
They will be able to use the materials at school and on a checkout basis. How exciting to see the rings of Saturn for the first time or to have a visual representation of the magnetic field. Science will become so much more than listening!
