We are a Title I school, which has many students facing economic hardships at home, and the accompanying challenges impact their education. All students are provided a breakfast and lunch at no cost, and we partner with local community organizations to help ensure all students have the supplies needed to be productive. Regardless of the outside pressures my students face, they come to class eager to learn.
My class is filled with high energy students, with a strong desire to learn.
One of the greatest challenges for high energy students is being able to find books that are both well written and interesting to the students. Books in a series provide students with a familiar setting, characters, and storyline which helps ensure students will like what they are reading.
My Project
Finding well-written books that children want to read is a challenge for students and teachers alike. There are so many books available that it can be hard to select a perfect book that will inspire a child's love of reading. When children find a book that they enjoy it is wonderful when that book is a part of a series or has alternate versions which children might enjoy as well. If not monitored some students will spend almost as much time looking for a book as they will reading. A simple way to help students who spend too much time looking for a book they like is to provide books in a series.
