My Students
We have had an amazing kick-off to this school year! I was excited to stretch myself professionally by venturing into kindergarten this year. Wow, it has been an experience! I am teaching an active group of kids with so many different qualities that are shaped from a variety of backgrounds. We are near a military base so many of our school families are already on their second or third school even though they are still elementary students. Being a Title I school, many of the remaining students carry a very different set of experiences.
My favorite part of the day is greeting them at the door and watching them run into my arms with a huge smile.
Kindergartners are so sweet and excited every day about learning. It is my dearest wish that I can keep that flame lit so that when I send them to first grade, they still have that joy for school and a true interest in learning.
My Project
I can't wait to see the kindergartners grow as they use these new activities! The Marble Run construction building set will help them think about the track direction, logical thinking, colors, and shapes. It also helps them with basic kindergarten skills that so many of them are lacking including hand-eye coordination, imagination ability, and cooperative learning. The Playshire Brainflakes are very similar in application to the Marble Run but they add an additional limitless engineering component. The OSMO set will be utilized mostly during literacy, math, and science rotations. The diversity of this program is so beneficial to the classroom! For literacy, students can build words with sounds that grow more complex with their learning. In math, they build shapes through tangrams and work through addition, subtraction and number identification. In science, we will be introducing coding to these bright young learners!
