My third grade students are so enthusiastic about being at school and learning. They are curious and inquisitive.
Over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and don't always have the appropriate footwear for outdoor exploration and learning.
I would like to be able to take students outside for more "in the field" environmental learning. To do that, I would like rubber boots for students whose families can't provide them.
Today, too many children spend too many hours with a screen rather than exploring, enjoying, and learning what our rural environment has to offer. Our students love any activity that is hands on, and the area around and beyond our school yard has so much to offer: trees, sticks, leaves, plants, soils, rocks, weather, etc...outdoors...hands-on. What a great way to learn!
My Project
Utilizing our own schoolyard and just beyond will help us work towards the Next Generation Science Standards and STEM learning. We need proper footwear such as rubber boots to accomplish this.
Students love any activity that is hands-on, and activities taking place outdoors will broaden and deepen students' understanding about the immediate world around them.
I don't want students to worry about having safe, warm footwear. I want them to focus on learning as we walk through the fields and examine the different plants there. I want them to focus on the variety trees, compare and contrast them as we stomp through the woods. I want the students to be alert as we collect soil samples, seed samples, insect samples, etc...
