Longing Little Listeners Looking for Listening Center

My students need a Califone Stereo Listening Center and a mobile organization shelf for our classroom daily centers.

My Students

I teach a class of sensational second graders. Each of them are so eager to learn this year and dive straight into the topics. Each student has shown me the respect and enthusiasm that I expect of them.

They continue to be outstanding members of society even at this young age of 7-8 years old.

They have shown a desire to want to learn more than what I ask of them. I want to provide them with every opportunity that is available to them and find ways to provide a more technologically involved environment.

My Project

Each day my second grade students enjoy their Daily 5 reading centers. However, our classroom is currently one of the only second grade rooms with no listening center. Having no listening center leaves my students left out of the excitement that audio books can bring to a classroom. Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. Hearing a book read on tape helps children see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading.

Audio books also give students an important introduction to listening, which a skill that they must master in order to learn to read.
