Learning to read is a very exciting process for all of my students. Whether we are working on building early reading skills such as letter identification and sounds, practicing phonics, or building comprehensions skills, we have a blast improving our literacy skills!
My students attend a public school in the Midwest.
We are one of three elementary schools in our town, and considered a low income school. 58% of our students come from low income homes.
My students are in 2nd and 3rd grade and attend special education classes for all or part of their school day. In my room, each student struggles with their own learning difficulties; however, they are all wonderful, hard working, eager to learn, and love coming to school.
My Project
All of my students need repeated drill and practice in order to understand and learn new material. Many of my students are also visual learners who need hands-on learning experiences to help them understand, retain, and apply concepts.
The learning levels of the students that I work with are quite broad. Therefore, the literacy skills that we practice daily cover a wide range of skills. With the limited supplies and resources that we have, it can be difficult to keep learning fun and exciting for the students.
I am requesting several literacy centers and comprehension activities. Some of these items will benefit my beginning readers who are working on letter identification, letter sounds, and other early phonics skills. My stronger readers will love the other resources which focus on a variety of phonemic awareness, vocabulary and comprehension skills. These materials will provide my students with more hands-on experiences aimed at their individual learning levels
I am very fortunate to be able to work with so many amazing students every day.
They all have fun, caring personalities, love coming to school, and work very hard to succeed. With your help in funding this project, my students will be given the opportunity to further develop their skills in a variety of new and exciting ways! My students and I appreciate your donation to provide more opportunities for them to become successful and confident readers.
