My students need enough money to purchase train tickets from London to Paris as part of a one-week educational field trip.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Bonjour! Guten tag! Buon giorno! Help us create a transformative experience for our students by opening their eyes to the experience of international travel!
Many schools organize international field trips by purchasing the packaged services of a tour company and ask participating families to pay the total cost of the trip.
In this type of trip, often only the wealthiest students are able to participate. This model would exclude most of the students at my school, as nearly 80% currently receive free or reduced cost lunch.
However, this trip is open to EVERY graduating senior at our school. We do not believe that international travel is a privilege reserved for our wealthiest students.
Those who sign up for this club do so in September, and then spend the entire year planning and participating in a number of fundraising events. Through this year-long effort they feel a real sense of investment in the trip.
My Project
Because we do not use a tour company, our students take charge of planning nearly every aspect of this trip. They use guidebooks, maps, and other resources to plan out what we do, factoring in the cost of meals, activities, transportation, and time constraints.
Due to our financial situation, our trip is currently limited to activities and attractions that do not require an admission fee. It is our hope that by offsetting the cost of train travel from London to Paris, we will be able to use those extra funds to purchase admittance to attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Westminster Abbey, Thames River Tour, and others.
Our goal is not just to expose students to some of the great arts and sites of the world, but also to teach them how to travel.
We want students to learn how to plan and budget a trip so they can see that lifelong travel is a possibility, even when they are not from a family of means. We are happy to report that many of our former travelers have completed semesters abroad in college as well as traveled and worked abroad on their own after college.
