My students need chess sets for the chess club in the fall. Our club will have many levels and tournaments. The students will need chess sets that hold up over time and fulfill the requirements.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students strive to be their best! We have a dedicated caring community at school. They often come to school with hardships to overcome. Poverty and crime are often factors that influence their lives and make going to school and learning more challenging. But they arrive with a positive attitude and we work as a team to improve, learn and grow! Most of the teachers here have a club or coach a sport. Some do both! When I walk through campus I see warmth, laughter, and friendly smiles.
My Project
Our school will be starting a chess club this fall! Chess is an excellent board game that teaches strategies and logic. It can be challenging and played on many levels.
Chess will help students learn to problem-solve while connecting them in a fun way!
Students will compete but also practice playing with sportsmanship and integrity. Practice will help them gain confidence in their decisions and their ability to problem-solve on their own.
The club will meet at lunch and after school to offer the students another way to get together and learn at school. I will be the instructor, and coach. After practice and learning, we hope to compete against other schools!
