Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Fifth grade in Community School 61. The students are hungry to learn, but due to poverty (92% receive free breakfast and lunch, & the school revives Federal Title 1 funds) there is little opportunity outside of the classroom to obtain books to read. Fortunately, many people have donated hundreds of books to my class. Unfortunately there are no bookcases to showcase them. As you know, LOCATION is everything. I need bookcases. Right now I have to keep a few hundred books tied up in cardboard boxes. I expect my students to read at least 25 books independently a year. By helping my class with bookcases, this goal will be met. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
