Help me give my students the full technical musical theatre experience by helping us purchase an Ipad Pro to aid in Set Design, Video/Commercials, and full Music for our productions.
Our high school has not had a real theatre program in about 10 years or so. I was hired to bring the program back and build it to the level of other schools in the area. The best thing about these students so far is how very, very grateful they are to have me and this program. At the beginning of the year, I had 40 students in each drama class with waiting lists!
I had a student tell me on the first day of school that I was "her answered prayer." At back to school night, I had two parents (of seniors) in tears when I told them I would make every effort to enroll their students in the Thespian Society so they could hopefully earn cords for graduation.
I am told every day by other staff, students and parents how happy they are to have me there and to have the theatre program back.
I have asked these students to do some pretty crazy things to get them out of their comfort zones and they have each embraced these challenges and excelled.
My Project
In order to run the music for our spring musical, The Wizard of Oz, we need to use an app specially available on Apple devices such as an Ipad or an Itouch. The rights for the music are very expensive and we want to make sure we have the best possible equipment when making this investment.
An Ipad Pro will not only allow us to have Broadway-quality orchestrations, but has a large enough screen and other features to allow multiple technical learning opportunities in our theatre classes, from set design to video/sound editing, and beyond, that will not only benefit students now, but in their future education and careers.
Students will gain hands-on instruction and experience learning about all of the parts of a production, not just the performance aspect.
Many students struggle with being on stage in front of a live audience, but so desperately want to be involved. With this device, students will be able to edit music and sound effects. They will be able to construct set design models and backdrops using projections from the device. Students will be able to use the Ipad to film and edit mini-movies and commercials for our productions as well. Students who DO enjoy performing on stage will also benefit from filmed performance as they can self-assess their characterization, voice, and movement and improve on their acting skills.
