Local Hero Video Contest
My students need a camcorder so they can produce, edit, and publish a video project.
Have you ever had a brilliant idea and not had the resources to implement it? That is the challenge my students face. There is a local video contest in which the community nominates a local hero for an award, and viewers vote on whom they find most deserving; however, we need a camcorder to enter.
I work at a small school that specializes in math and science education.
I work in a high poverty area, yet students who attend this school come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The main thing that they have in common is that they are very motivated academically. Math Club is one of the biggest clubs on campus, and Scrabble Club is a close second.
These students genuinely care about the world and what is going on in it. Each year we help clean up downtown, and have done various tasks ranging from building sandboxes in a daycare center, reading to elementary children, to planting rose bushes by a bus stop. All of this is done by student volunteers.
I am requesting a camcorder for the school because a few students have approached me and want to enter a video contest honoring a local hero. Several of the students would really like to honor someone in the community who has helped them, yet don't have the money to buy a camcorder. They came to me and asked if I could help them with the project.
By providing a camcorder you will make a group of children happy that they are able to honor someone they care about. They will learn responsibility, editing skills, reporting skills, and filming skills. You never know, your donation could inspire a student to become a producer or director. With your help and ABC Family we can make a difference.
Your donation not only inspires children, it inspires the children who what to do what is right in the world, and honor others that already do.
We often wonder if we are making a difference in the world, and I can promise you, by donating to this project, you will not only be helping children, you will also be forging a stronger bond between a child and her mother.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
