Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our center serves students from a diverse range of developmental, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds. This year the ECDC’s will implement a bilingual program following the K-8 guidelines that help students foster language development in both English and Spanish. The ECDC (Early Childhood Development Center) has a total of 28 students ranging from the ages of 3 months to 5 years old. This project will benefit 17 preschool students, no matter their needs or the number of developmental milestones they’ve achieved.
The students at the ECDC are energetic, persistent, intelligent, adaptable, adventurous, affectionate, and courageous; but most importantly, they are eager to learn.
The students are taught a wide variety of themes, from American History to the importance of nature and science. At the ECDC we believe that students learn by meaningful experiences. My Project
For my third year at my school, I was offer a position as the Lead Spanish Teacher. Unfortunately Spanish resources are minimal and sometimes you have to create your own. Literacy plays a big part in our daily schedule; we encourage students to have two quiet reading periods. On B days (Spanish) students will be motivated/encouraged to pick a book in Spanish. Although they may not quite know how to read, just to have that familiar visual will motivate them and give them the confidence they need.
If this project gets funded, my students will have access to high quality literacy in Spanish that will be specifically guided towards their age.
The great benefits of this project will include learning a new language as a visual format and falling in love with literacy at an early age.
