Our school is Pre-K through 12th grade. We are located in a very rural area and 87% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. This environment is filled with many advantages. Our students are thankful for everything they receive and they love to be at school. Our school is a close-knit community that cares for one another. We love participating collaboratively across grade levels. However, my kindergarten students must share 6 iPads with approximately 60 other students in first and second grade.
My Project
The iPads would be used for all academic levels in my class. They would be used to help my struggling students learn their letters, sounds, and numbers. They would be used to provide enrichment opportunities for my high level learners. My students would be able to visit educational websites and use educational apps that are on their academic level. They could take virtual field trips together in small groups.
Having access to quality educational websites will carry over into their home environment.
They could log onto the same sites from home in order to further their learning. For example, my students had no idea that they could find a website that would teach their letter sounds exactly like I do in the classroom. They were excited to find out that they could go onto YouTube Kids and practice their letters and sounds when their parents were not available.
