Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students do not speak English, have never been to school, and the majority have never been taken care of outside of their home. They are learning to socialize with others, use writing materials, read books, and move to the beat of a teacher that their parents have entrusted them with.
My students live in severe poverty and access to care and resources are limited.
About 20% of my students have special needs and are just now able to access services. Facing all of these barriers, my students' ability to learn, have fun, and help each other in hard times is not hindered. They are amazing human beings who deserve an equitable and profound education.
My Project
My students are early readers. The more exposure they have to hear quality text, both nonfiction and fiction, the better their chances are at becoming more engaged in reading, becoming more proficient readers, and becoming quality story-tellers.
These read-along books will allow all of my students to hear more diverse and higher leverage literature on top of our daily read alouds.
My students love to come to the listening center but they do not have enough books to share and they are becoming bored with the books that we have. It's time to switch it up and keep engaging them in books!
