My Students

We are Alaska’s largest rural school district in the number of schools, students and staff. Located approximately 400 air miles west of Anchorage, the district encompasses the lower part of the Kuskokwim River Delta, along the coast of the Bering Sea. It is Alaska’s second largest rural school district in terms of geographical area with roughly 22,000 square miles of roadless tundra, and area equivalent in size to the state of West Virginia. Headquartered on the main campus in Bethel, the district office provides coordination of services and support to 22 village and 6 Bethel schools.

My Project

I am a distance Learning Science Teacher from western Alaska. We have 26 schools in our district that are all off the road system. The only way to get to our schools is by taking a 400 mile jet trip We offer specialized high school distance learning classes by internet connections to each village school.

The majority of our students do not have home internet access and bandwidth is limited.

With the closing of schools due to the Coronavirus, our students are home with no internet access and cut off from internet distance learning options. Our schools are sending computers home. These thumb drives will help us load instructional material, videos and resources to continue home based learning. We are having trouble printing all of our digital materials. Please help us send 21st century learning to our rural students in this time of isolation.
