Living Through Literature

My Students

My students are curious about the world that is ahead of them. They are constantly asking questions and often finding their own answers. For most of my students, it is their first time in middle school. In this new school, they are navigating their way through the halls and through the characteristics of the people they want to be. This is a time in their lives where their responsibilities, expectations, and goals are changing along with them. I would like to supply my classroom with books that are age-appropriate and with main characters that are going through some of the same challenges and choices my students are.

My Project

For the past two years, students have had to find new ways to deal with and understand the world around them. Not only have they now navigated through a pandemic but they are also navigating through online distant learning, fear of getting sick, and middle school. With the help of these books, I hope to give my students an opportunity to escape some of the stress they find themselves in. With the use of whiteboards, I hope to incorporate fun back into the classroom. I also plan to use these whiteboards to check for understanding in students who may be a little too shy to raise their hands and make comments in class. With the bookshelf requested I will allow for a space for students to write recommendations for classroom books and write up a synopsis for a recently read book.
