I am fortunate enough to work with an outstanding group of fifth graders. Walk into my classroom and you will observe some of the most hard-working, energetic, and resilient youngsters you have ever encountered. Arriving to school everyday from troubled home lives including parental dynamics, nutrition concerns, and socioeconomic challenges - school represents a refuge. It is in 180 days that I can make a significant impact on their academic lives, and I intend to do just that.
I firmly believe they all can succeed and your contribution to my classroom will assist me in accomplishing that goal!
The world we live in is an increasingly diverse and technologically driven society. When you think about it, schools today are undoubtedly robust 21 Century learning environments for the youth. Embedded into my curriculum are tasks using websites like Google Classroom, NewsELA, Quizlet, Padlet, Lexia, and more. It only makes sense for me to adapt my instruction to work with the tech-based modalities that my students learn best from.
My fifth graders enter my classroom as digital natives and as their teacher, in order to effectively meet them where they are, I need to bring their learning to life with technology.
It is my goal to bring in more Chromebooks and in this way, I can work towards a more 1:1 academic experience for my students. In math we can perform 3 Act Tasks, in reading we can construct digital slide presentations after conducting research, and in writing, my students can enhance their typing skills as they prepare for middle school and beyond where computer generated final drafts of essays are the norm.
