Living the Dream: Sustainable Living in Germany and Switzerland
Help me give my students their dream of traveling internationally and seeing STEM careers in action by learning about other cultures, sustainable resources, and application of what is learned in the classroom.
My students are part of a pilot program to tour Germany and Switzerland focused on STEM careers. Being an active experience of not only traveling out of their small community to see the larger world but focusing on engineering gains in other countries.
Students have been fundraising to earn the opportunity.
This summer they hosted a STEM week-long summer camp for elementary and middle students locally. They lead a variety of programming, science experiments, and engineering challenges during the week. They have sold candles, Christmas wreaths, and hosted a benefit dinner.
My students are ecstatic about the opportunity to grow educationally, personally, and apply what they are learning to real-world problems. Being a part of the creative conservation firsthand as they embark on an urban quest in the green city of Freiburg, hike through an Alpine glacier, and discover a vast underground city in a nuclear bunker in Lucerne is a dream.

Recycling. Clean energy. Farms of the future. Germany and Switzerland have been at the forefront of some of the world’s most forward-thinking approaches to technology and energy. And it’s easy to see why—these countries are a perfect blend of European charm and start-up culture.

I share this because I really believe travel connects us. Years later students still continue to stay in touch and share how travel has changed their lives. Travel helps us see how small the world can be and helps young people see how important it is to explore. Paired with applications, my students are introduced to a new world of possibilities.
The cost requested will host two students' full travel. The donation will be split between those students traveling to help all nine students reach their goals of traveling.
