Living in a World With Love, Hope, and Acceptance!
Help me give my students the opportunity to participate in the 2019-2020 Global Read Aloud. Having this novel set will allow my students to communicate and collaborate with students all over the world.
My students need the book Front Desk by Kelly Yang to participate in the 2019 Global Read Aloud in which we have been chosen to participate.
My students are very enthusiastic readers and love to read books that allows them to learn about the history of our country .
They love to read new and interesting books. This upcoming 2019-2020 school year we have been chosen to be apart of a Global Read Aloud where we will be able to communicate with other students all over the world either by Face Timing, emailing, Twitter, or a Google Classroom. We need help in getting a class set of this wonderful book.
We are a rural school in North Carolina with a high poverty rate. We don't have a lot of money to purchase new classroom novels sets for every classroom. We are a Title I school, and the money that we are allocated goes towards getting technology devices, paying teacher salaries, getting classroom textbook that are already part of the budget. Having new novel sets is not allocated in our budget. With community help, we would be able to offer students a new and exciting book to read.
My Project
Front Desk by Kelly Yang will allow my students to learn about what is was like to be an immigrant in the United States and all of the hardships that they had to endure. Also, with this book comes many themes that I can bring in to teach my students about social justice, teamwork, perseverance, gratitude, importance of family and friendship and acceptance of one another.
Students will be able to collaborate with other students from all around the world which will allow them to see how other students learn and live in their culture.
In this book it will take the main character Mia courage, kindness, and hard work to get through this year. My students will be able to relate to Mia's character traits through their struggles with school and home life that with courage and hard work all things are possible. Also, with kindness that showing kindness will allow you to be a happier person.
