My students need a dust buster vac, TV, crock pot and even an Alexa Echo Dot for their life skills apartment to encourage growth in their ability to use every day items efficiently.
Even though each of our students are diagnosed with a Significant Disability or Autism and most have significant health concerns that interfere with their functioning, they continue to conquer the challenges set in their path. The goals they achieve are profound. They all have a passion for learning and caring for others. They have big hopes and dreams and are so deserving of a chance to achieve them!
My students couldn't be more full of life.
When they enter a room, it instantly enriches everyone they surround! They are kind, sincere, and so funny! I enjoy every day with them. Each of them could be discouraged by the challenges they face academically, socially, and in caring for themselves, but instead they celebrate! They celebrate every achievement like it is Christmas morning and there is no other joy as wonderful as that!
My students are so passionate about helping, growing, learning and sharing their gifts. It is so discouraging at times to know that there is more that I could give them to help them thrive if we had the resources. They deserve to shine!
My Project
Our life skills apartment is up and running for our students with Special Abilities! Every day our Significant Disabilities/Autism class has the opportunity to practice basic daily living skills that we all take for granted. In our life skills apartment, they learn to care for themselves, meet their basic needs with more independence, and learn to perform simple tasks like cooking, cleaning, folding and hanging clothes, ironing and making a bed.
However, our apartment is lacking everyday equipment like a dust buster vac, TV, crock pot and even an Alexa Echo Dot where they can learn to verbally set alarms for themselves and verbally call others in an emergency.
These items will greatly enhance their ability to practice everyday tasks that is beneficial to their efforts to achieve independence! Please help us give them the opportunity to thrive and enjoy life's most basic activities!
