My students need a CD/tape player for story listening purposes, as well as a classroom clock to help aid in our learning experiences.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the joy on you face when you heard a story read aloud for the first time? What about all those times you got to hear the story over and over and could repeat the words verbatim? This was your first exposure to READING!
This school year I provide special education services to 42 Kindergarten-5th grade students with varying disabilities; ranging from learning- to developmental delays- to autism.
I teach in a Title-One school where families come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and where the majority of students come from Spanish speaking homes. My students are inquisitive, caring, energetic, and they love to come to school to learn, despite their academic limitations. This school year, funds have been very low, especially since our Override did not pass last school year. We are limited in supplies and equipment for our classrooms. My students deserve the opportunity to engage in literacy with repeat exposures to text. A listening center will provide just that; an opportunity to explore reading in a new and repetitive way, specific to their needs.
My Project
My students deserve a listening center! While working at literacy centers and during small group instruction, students will have the opportunity to engage in repeat exposures to text. As research-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud, and doing so on multiple occasions, greatly improves students' reading; this exposure models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of a literacy rich environment.
I love reading stories to my students! However, the experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book is truly invaluable! A listening center will develop their reading level, push them to grade level texts, and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
Students who have developmental delays, autism, and learning disabilities often struggle with academic tasks.
A Listening center will allow these students the opportunity to engage in literacy in ways they haven't in the past, increasing their knowledge base and their opportunities for future success in all they do. My students will overcome many odds because of this donation to their future!
