My school is a Title One school with 78% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. This affects many of the students in my class. Many have not had life experiences that build background knowledge for learning.
Kindergarten is an essential part of their early learning development.
We strive to give them as many experiences and practice putting their learning into words.
The students here are very transient and move in and out of our school.
Many of the students in my classroom have EC or ESL backgrounds and require extra interventions to help them achieve success in the mainstream classroom.
My Project
Students will read stories about lifecycles and discuss their learning while observing caterpillars and ladybug larvae grow in to butterflies and ladybugs right before their eyes!
They will use the models and the stamps to discuss and write about the different stages of life for caterpillars, ladybugs, frogs, and plants.
Science in Kindergarten should be hands on and there is no better way to learn about lifecycles than actually seeing the transformation of caterpillars and ladybugs. We will also plant sunflowers and watch frogs go from eggs to adults.
How awesome will release day be when the students understand their butterflies and ladybugs are going out to continue their own lifecycles?
