I teach inclusion 7th and 8th grade Life Science and Earth Science Classes in a rural school, a total of 120 students. I teach all of the students requiring special education services, accommodations, and modifications on our campus, as well as students in regular education. All of our students have access to computers during the classes, however, their exposure to Science education has been limited to in-class activities and laboratories. In addition, teaching in a blended online/in-person setting has created a challenging environment for science learning. I am interested in purchasing a video camera/webcam, a lab table for demonstrations and a microphone set-up that will help facilitate opportunities to demonstrate labs for both in-person and virtual platforms. Access to lab demonstrations will help students learn the concepts that we are learning in class. It also brings them to 20th-century skills that mirror the State Science Assessments.
My Project
Using the WEBCam and the lab table, I will be able to teach through livestream, synchronously to students learning difficulties in my classroom and those who are at home. I will be demonstrating lab experiments, recording the lab experiments, and posting the instructions on Google Classroom for the students to follow as they perform the experiments both in school and at home. The students are then able to refer back to the recorded instruction to help guide them to complete the work. As an inclusion teacher, I will also be able to provide additional instruction to provide modified and adaptive instruction to students with disabilities.
