Our school library serves 1,300 students in grades 9-12 from all economic backgrounds. An average of 200 students visit the library each day. Many students, especially upperclassmen, have multiple study halls during which they visit the library.
Students and parents expressed to me that they would like the library to be a relaxing haven where they can interact with each other.
We have a diverse student body, ranging from students with severe disabilities in a life skills program to highly advanced students in a gifted program.
My Project
My students are naturally curious, which is why many of them visit our library. They love learning new things and exploring.
An ant farm would fascinate them and prompt them to learn more about the lives of the insects that they see right in front of them.
I will display science books next to the ant farm so they can learn more about insects and other scientific topics.
I will also work with our general science classes to do research projects on entomology that involve the ant farm. I will invite them to observe the ants in action and research their behaviors.
