Live From Neurosurgery Field Trip at Liberty Science Center
Help me give my students the opportunity to see a Live Neurosurgery and Q&A with a Neurosurgeon through Liberty Science Center's Live from Neurosurgery field trip opportunity!
My students are creative, excited, and eager to learn! I am excited to have the opportunity to teach them in Anatomy & Physiology.
The students enrolled in my course are very diverse, including EMTs, aspiring medical doctors, aspiring physical therapists, aspiring nurses, athletes, artists, designers, and pure learners.
Each of my students has a unique background and upbringing, but they are all passionate about learning more about the human body, regardless of what their plans are for after high school. This course will give my students the tools they need to better understand their bodies and what doctors are explaining to them and their family members so that they can make educated and informed decisions.
My Project
In my Anatomy & Physiology class, students learn about the human body through the application of content, including dissections, field trips, modeling, guest lectures, and engineering design challenges.
This field trip provides a unique opportunity to view neurosurgery as it is happening, and ask questions of the neurosurgeon afterward!
Rather than simply learning about the brain through diagrams in a book, 3D models, and a sheep brain dissection, we will be able to see what it's like when surgery occurs on the human brain! This field is one of the leading aspects of research on the human body, and opportunities to view a live surgery as it is occurring are nearly unheard of until students are far into medical school. For students who are planning on taking that path, this experience will give them a preview of what is yet to come. For students who are not inclined to medical school, this experience will give them a view of what it's like to be the surgeon and learn from a different perspective than most patients and humans ever have exposure to.
