Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious, kind, and creative! They love learning through hands-on activities and collaborative projects that help them make connections in school and in their personal lives. The majority of my students have trouble accessing a high amount of tactile instructional material and reading practice materials.
Our school is Title I school with the majority of students being socioeconomically disadvantaged and English Language Learners.
As a first year teacher, I try my best to obtain basic classroom materials and supplies for my class, but feel that I am not providing my students with enough.
Our classroom incorporates a flexible learning environment to fit my students' individual needs. We believe that all students have the right to an equitable education in which all deserve access to anything they require to succeed academically and socio-emotionally.
I am so thankful to have such an enthusiastic group of students and we are ready to dive into the new year.
My Project
This project came about with the need for basic classroom materials that support the needs of my students in developing strong communication skills.
Kindergarten is the foundation of a student's ability to effectively communicate through written words, spoken words, and visualizations.
I can best support my English Language Learners through visual anchor charts, interactive writing practice on individual white-boards and access to developmentally appropriate primary pencils.
Art is a powerful tool in any primary classroom as it creates equal opportunity to express oneself through a universal language. Students have opportunities to learn and describe their art in terms of colors, shapes, size, and emotion.
