My students need a number of small items to help make our days run more smoothly like headphones for our iPads and punches & pockets for our sight word punch cards.
"iPads are my favorite!" said every kindergarten student ever! Last year, I wrote and received a grant for 5 iPad Airs. The students love using these and there are so many great things that we can do with them...when we are able to use them without distracting the rest of the class.
I am lucky enough to teach the greatest students on Earth!
My children are young and thirsty for knowledge so I am always looking for ways to keep our content fun and active. We are fortunate to be in a tiny, rural community that does their best to support our children in so many ways. However, finances have been especially tight in this small district and we have had to do without a number of things that would enhance our programs. Through our resourcefulness and your generosity, I am confident that we can find a way to bring these children what they need to be able to learn!
My Project
I am asking for headphones and splitters so that my students will be able to use iPad learning apps in small groups as a station during our Guided Reading and literacy time.
I am seeking some mini clipboards, easier for little hands to manage for fun writing and math activities. I have also asked for a hand punch so that my students can take learning sight words into their own hands (literally!) using a punch card system that we are starting this year. Think of the sense of pride and accomplishment they will feel when they add a star next to each of the words they've learned!
I am asking for library card pockets to have a safe place for students to store their sight word punch cards. We want to make sure they don't loose these treasured cards and learn responsibility for their well-being.
Finally, I am asking for sand timers. One of the many uses for these will be to make sentence building fun by challenging students to assemble them before the time expires!
I have a quote by Benjamin Franklin posted next to my desk to remind me every day, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." It is so important to put the content that we are trying to teach right in a child's hand.
