Looking back on the day where we were told that students wouldn't be returning to school for a couple of weeks in order for them to shelter in place, never did I imagine that would be the last time I would see my students in my classroom. However, the school year continues virtually and we still have a lot of precious time together!
Even though our new virtual classroom is missing the daily hugs and fist bumps, it is still a place where we learn, laugh, share our work, continue to learn from our mistakes, and celebrate our successes.
Our virtual classroom meets four times a week, including one day of recess. My students are using a variety of educational platforms. The students continue to access all of the subjects through lessons, teacher recordings, and instructional materials that they were able to take home.
We were just starting a new unit in science, when our entire life was changed due to Covid 19. Transitioning from an interactive, hands-on classroom to a virtual classroom has been challenging and daunting. My students are an enthusiastic and bright bunch that have adapted to our new way of learning, but they have articulated how much they miss school and our classroom.
The book 'Awesome Science Experiments for Kids' would give my amazing students the opportunity for discovery and learning through engaging hands-on science experiments in their own home.
