Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The goal of our school is to improve student understanding and enthusiasm to science concepts. I teach science to K-4 grade students. We serve 90% students who are economically disadvantageous but still passionate learners.
It is very important to every teacher to facilitate learning for all students, giving them life skills and knowledge to become informed citizens of the world. Unfortunately, most of the elementary science curriculum provide neither information nor experience for students to understand concepts. Why, is this happening, because many educators simply do not have the quality time to teach science in their classrooms and with budget cuts, funding for supplies and curriculum development is limited.
Science education is important in today's society, especially in the elementary students, which provides basic foundation to create interest in the science subject. As a science educator I want to improve the science knowledge of my students by creating new activities which will deep root science concepts in the young brains. I believe new hands-on science based educational material will be a beneficial tool in guiding my students in the direction needed to better understand valuable aspects of Science and success in their lives. The schools are cutting recess for the kids so the kids are not able to explore the outside world with the help of microscopes which will be donated we would collect samples and observe them, the kids can have a field trip to park and collect all the samples and observer them with the microscopes. The aprons donated will help them protect their clothes during the various experiments that can mess up there clothes in this way they can explore messy labs but still have fun at the same time.
Our long term goal is to implant the student’s sense of conscientiousness as a responsible member of the family, citizen within a democracy and as a proud member of world community.
The need of the resources has increased as our District received lots of damage to its school buildings due to a Hurricane impact and lost a good amount of its resources. The added cost of repairing or rebuilding the schools affected is a real strain on the school district's already stretched budget. The cost of repairing and rebuilding the schools will most likely come out of the already small budget for improving the education at the schools. We have merged a school within school to help an effected school due to Hurricane impact.
