Little Science and Math Brains STEMming from Great STEM Centers!
Help me give my students hands-on activities for our STEM centers, such as the MagnaTiles, pattern block pattern pages, number games, rocks and minerals, and the butterfly house.
I get to work with children of all ages and multiple intelligences from many backgrounds. Our school, housed in one of the oldest school buildings in the district, is nestled in a wonderfully diverse neighborhood—socioeconomically, racially, and ethnically. The faculty and staff really focus on developing each child's gifts, individually. The students in my classes have individualized education plans to help them achieve goals in literacy, math, and/or social skills. I strive to make my classroom a safe and comfortable space that is ideal for learning!
Engaging students in hands-on learning experiences, projects and situations with real world connections, as well as teaching them to work side by side and collaboratively with their peers will help prepare them for years to come.
When looking at the students in my class and watching the growth they demonstrate in academics and social interactions, I wouldn't trade my students for any others! They are my heart!
My Project
In creating STEM centers for my students, they will have exposure to a variety of hands-on math and science materials and games to help them explore their world.
With a specific time each day allotted to STEM centers, my students can experience numbers and the sciences in new and exciting ways.
As a class, we will learn about broad, age-appropriate themes in science and math. Then my students will head off to centers to work independently and in small groups to explore their new learning manipulatives - giant floor puzzles, real rocks and minerals to study with a magnifying glass, magnetic building blocks, and so much more!
