I am a first year teacher from Oklahoma, and my students come from various social and economic backgrounds. We began our first week of school with the adventure of virtual learning. Within the first few days I realized that my second graders are kind. They are patient - with me, with each other, and with technology. But most importantly, they are resilient.
My students are eager to learn.
By week two, we were back in our classroom, and it was obvious that they could not wait to be back at school. More importantly, they could not wait to work with their classmates. I end each day, with the biggest smile because these 2nd graders radiate positivity.
My Project
As my students make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn, I need a just right book for everyone! The books I have selected are constantly asked for in my classroom. I have chosen books that make my students WANT to read for fun. From the laughter that comes from reading the Bad Guys series to the spark in my beginning readers eyes when they read every word of a Mo Willems book, I know these books are worth it. In our classroom my students participate in at least 20 minutes of read-to-self or read to someone every day, and these are the books that make this time memorable.
Adding these books to our classroom library will help these little readers become book lovers.
