My students need sets of books to be read in small groups. The books that I have selected are laugh-out-loud funny and perfect for engaging reluctant readers!
It is often surmised that students must hear 1,000 books read aloud to them before they are ready to learn to read. However, many of my students begin their school experience having heard zero. It's no secret that children living in poverty are significantly behind when it comes to literacy, and my students are no exception.
As a reading interventionist, I work with some of the most at-risk students in the entire building.
I am tasked with the challenge of helping students who are reading significantly below grade level make major gains.
My Project
As a Title I teacher, I work with the neediest readers in the entire school building. My students desperately need to accelerate their reading ability, and the best way to do that is to read more books! In order to accomplish that task, my students need more books to read.
This project will provide my students with some of the most irresistible stories around in order to steer my students toward a love of literacy.
It is often said that before students fall in love with reading, they first must fall in love with stories. With your support, my students will have more books in their hands and will soon be on their way to reading proficiency.
