My First grade students are full of life and excitement about learning! Their joy in discovering new things and eagerness to develop their skills as learners is evident as they participate in learning activities.
My students have shown excitement about our classroom library and being real readers from the very beginning, eagerly choosing books to read on their own and together.
In just the short time since we started the school year we have built a strong sense of community based on learning together and helping one another. I can't wait to see how my students continue to grow together as learners and friends.
My Project
Research shows that the number one predictor of students' progress in reading development is the amount of time they spend reading books that are on their current reading level. At the beginning of First grade, however, it can be difficult to find on-level books for students, as there is not a very wide variety of books published on low levels. We are requesting books for our classroom library - on levels C, D and E - that reflect my students' abilities, needs, and interests!
The additions to our classroom library in this project will provide my students with engaging, on-level texts that will help their reading skills take flight.
Students will be able to select titles that are not only interesting to them but that will help them progress as readers and develop a love of reading that will hopefully last a lifetime.
