Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in Miss Cliff's Second grade classroom includes good laughs and good learning. A positive classroom community is the foundation of a successful classroom. My students love coming to school and respect themselves and each other.
My students are caring, hilarious, and hardworking seven and eight year olds.
They are thoughtful, witty and enthusiastic. They strive to be better people and better learners. Many of my students come from very low socio-economic backgrounds. For several of my students, English is not their primary language. These kids face many challenges, yet, they still come to school with their big, toothless grins ready for the day's challenge. They have left such an impact on my life and I only hope I could do the same for them. I am so grateful and lucky to call these kids my students.
My Project
My students' greatest challenge is literacy and our classroom's greatest needs are more learning tools that aid students in becoming successful readers. As a first year teacher, I lack the amount of resources a more experienced teacher might have. My dream is to have a classroom library with books that vary in genre and skill level to meet the needs and interests of all my students.
I am also requesting tablets. I think technology is such a huge part of our society and is here to stay. Students need to be exposed to technology as a learning tool for academics and for life. A tablet is perfect for a classroom because it is so many things packed into one. It is a book, a dictionary and the world's largest encyclopedia. Tablets give students access to apps that can cater to their very needs and skills. It would also be helpful to use a tablet to easily hookup to our projector to share a video or useful information from the web.
These donations to our classroom would surely improve students' interest and love for reading.
The more my students are able to read, the better they will become. I would love to see my student's reading skills improve by the end of the year! With these resources, I believe we could achieve this goal!
