The class I work in is a very diverse group of learners. They are diverse in their culture and also in their levels of reading ability. They are very curious learners and love learning. They are very kind and helpful towards each other.
I want to prepare my students to be leaders, but in order to be leaders, they must be readers.
We have Asian, Hispanic, African American, and Caucasian students. Some need that extra reading encouragement because of language and some because of the lack of materials at home. It is up to us to lay the foundation for their future.
My Project
We are a Kindergarten class of 32 students who love to work with letters and develop words. It is very difficult to reach each student at their level to teach them to read with love. We have students that range from learning their phonics to others that are already beginning readers. By using the beginning, middle, and end game and the phonics flip books we will be able to help students at all levels.
Our goal is to have centers so that we can reach all of our students at their own individual levels.
This will assure that all of our students become great readers. The requested materials (phonic boards, CVC Word work centers, and rhyming houses) will enable us to have centers for beginning-middle-ending sounds, word families, and sentence structuring while students switch through literacy centers learning what good readers do. When our students sound out a word and get it correct they praise themselves and their classmates. The love of reading is there it just has to be nurtured.
