My students need books that are at an appropriate reading level so that they can experience the joy of reading and feel the sense of accomplishment of reading books on their own.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Although they may be at a socio-economic disadvantage, my students are ready to learn and are capable of great things.
We have to help close the opportunity gap so that these students can truly have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Together we can help make these students futures even brighter. Imagine the smiles on their faces when they see their brand new library with books that are appropriate for their reading level.
My Project
These books will allow my students to chose titles that are not only of interest to them but also at a level that is appropriate.
Students will be able to utilize skills that they learn during guided reading lessons to read independently.
I chose these books because they are in easy to identify, leveled bins with fiction and non-fiction titles. Students will be able to choose the topic they are interested in to give them some autonomy over what they read.
This will give my students a huge sense of accomplishment and will help foster their love of reading.
