Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are wonderful, expressive, creative individuals who come from a variety of home environments. Some students in our classroom are second language learners coming to school with very little exposure to English language. Our school population is mostly Latino, ESL, low-income students who are thrilled to have the chance to learn, participate, and play in the classroom environment. Many of these students are on a scholarship to be able to go to preschool. The students are active participants in a positive school environment that encourages all students to succeed and holds them accountable.
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
My Project
Preschool is most children's first experience at school. It is important to build an academic foundation and encourage them to explore many different content areas that will head start development. One area we would love to incorporate in our classroom is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). At this age, it is important to spark their interest in STEM through play and it will benefit them throughout their lives. STEM encourages imagination, creativity and out-of the box thinking. On our list, we have magnetic building blocks, kinetic sand, Lego blocks, and shape manipulatives that will help our students explore science and math. We will use these items during free choice time and small group.
Our students love hands-on activities and also love to explore different careers and connect to real-life situations.
Through dramatic play, children can develop positive social skills and conversations that relate to the world around us. We are asking for diverse baby dolls, a baby doll stroller and a play kitchen table for our dramatic play center.
