I teach 25 kindergarten students that are full of energy and life. They come to school bubbling with excitement to explore new ideas, make friends and have fun! In my school, 88% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. Over 1/2 of the students in my classroom are learning English as a second language. I also teach in a special education co-taught classroom, where including every child is a priority.
Kindergarten is a magical year where play is a cornerstone of learning.
Every day my students engage in active play with their peers. During this time, students are free to explore and engage in play-based learning centers that focus around a universal theme with overarching big ideas. They are free to make choices, activate their voice and work and learn alongside their peers. Their love of learning inspires me each day and I am proud to be their teacher.
My Project
My students love to create and activate their artistic voice by drawing and painting. Every day, they choose the art easel as a way to engage their creative side. The problem is that our art easel is falling apart because the legs have become wobbly and the paint trays come undone because the screw holes are worn out. We also need a drying rack so that we don't have to put our finished products on the floor to be trampled over.
My kindergarten students need a new art easel with cup holders to organize their paints as well as a drying rack to bring their finished work to completion.
These items will help my students be the artists that they love to be by giving them a sturdy easel to do their work as well as paint cups with lids for independent retrieval of materials. They will be able to place their finished products on the drying rack to bring their work to completion.
