Do you recall when you first used a chalk board and how exciting it was to use it as you demonstrated your writing abilities. My students need dry erase boards because they too need to feel the same type of pride in their writing abilities as well as excitement as they excel in writing.
My students are first graders.
They are really needy (financially) and attend a public school in an inner city school district. They are eager to learn but...need some additional supplies to help make this even more rewarding and inspirational for them. Being that my students are bi-lingual, learning to write in English correctly is even a more difficult process for them.
My Project
My class can really use dry erase boards, markers for the boards, letter magnets and bead to help with spelling the words then copying them on the boards. This will make the writing and spelling experience for my students more of an acquired knowledge and experience as opposed to a temporary learned skill. I want my students to become not only lifelong learners but also writers.
This project is extremely important to my students as well as me because it will allow them to become actively engaged and partake in daily routines which we are currently doing without these necessary items.
Writing in the air or with paper does not have the same affect that a dry erase board for each student would have. This allows them to correct their errors without much struggle in deleting the obvious mistakes.
