My school is very diverse in that we have many English Language Learners which make up almost half the population of our school. Also, we are an all kindergarten school made up of approximately 500 5 and 6 year olds! That's a lot of little bodies that can be influenced in a positive way!
I teach thirty-six enthusiastic, eager, and energetic kindergartners at a Title I school.
Our school is in a very low socioeconomic community. Because we are in a high poverty community, all students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch through the community eligibility program. Most of my students have not had the opportunity to attend pre-k or have significant learning experiences in their homes.
My Project
I love to watch young children play creatively! It is fun to watch them interact with their peers and listen to conversations with their friends.
Because I teach many students whose first language is a different language than English, a dramatic play center is a great way to get them interacting and talking!
A table and chair set would allow 4 students at a time to sit together. The pretend food I am requesting will provide many opportunities for discussion with peers. A dramatic play center is a fun way increase engagement. Dolls are another great tool to initiate discussion, and creative play for not only my English Language Learners, but for all of my students! I would love to provide these materials for my students with your help. This organization and people like you are wonderful assets to education. I appreciate your time in reading this proposal!
