Mrs. Gottschall from Plattsburgh NY is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students access to the inspiring lives of some of the world's greatest influencers with some new books.
My students are sweet, kind, curious lovers of non-fiction. They enjoy discovering and learning about people and places. Many of my students come to school facing a variety of challenges.
Stories about influential people in our world who have overcome adversity are invaluable for my kiddos.
When the going gets tough for my students, drawing on the experiences of others can act as a road map on how to perservere.
I want our library to be the hub of literacy, curiosity and fun- a sort of magical place where students are free to read, wonder and dream about all they can be.
The Little People, Big Dreams series consists of biographies of some of the world's greatest thinkers, performers, athletes and creative artists. My students really enjoy non-fiction but our biography collection is a bit outdated and not appropriate for our youngest students. The Little People, Big Dreams series has eye-catching illustrations and are written for at a reading level appropriate for the elementary school audience.
When the going gets tough for my students, drawing on the experiences of others can act as a road map on how to persevere.
These books will become part of the library collection which all of my students will have access to and get enjoyment from. In addition to the pleasure of reading about these inspiring people, students in the upper grades will also be using the books in this series to complete mini research projects highlighting the character strengths of optimism, gratitude, grit, self control, social intelligence, zest and curiosity.
