Help me give my students what they need to learn to manage their emotions. We are requesting 3 ipads to help 3 classrooms set up a break station for students to be lead independently through Mindfulness activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is full of students energized, engaged and creative who live in Illinois. My classroom is part of a STEM academy and we utilize Science, Technology, Engineering and Math in all curriculum areas. My students come from various backgrounds and different areas of Champaign. This diverse environment creates a wonderfully accepting community in my classroom and school. Currently eighty-five percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch services and many do not have access to resources at home. My goal to be able to provide educational experiences for all the children in my classroom, that will keep them excited about school and become lovers of learning.
My Project
Help three 1st grade classrooms set up three break stations that will help guide our students through mindfulness activities independently and give them a safe place to take a break and refocus and reflect. Our students need an opportunity to refocus and reflect on their emotions and learn strategies to help address big emotions like anxiety, frustration and disappointment. This project will help provide over 75 students to access to materials and resources that are needed to help guide them through the process. Our grade level believes in teaching the whole child and these resources will help us address our students' needs and support their social and emotional growth as well as their academic growth.
The iPads will be used to help guide our students through mindfulness activities independently.
They will also be utilized in other areas of learning (in math, science and reading activities).
The other items listed will be used to help the students explore different strategies to help calm big emotions and help them be prepared to learn.
Learning these strategies through the use of these resources will not only help the students in our classrooms daily, but will also help help lay the foundation for future learning and development.
