Little Music Makers

My students need musical instruments to explore sound, music, and movement. The 2 sets together will give me enough instruments for each child to have their own to play.

My Students

In my Transitional Kindergarten class students participate in many opportunities for music through songs. We currently only have enough instruments for 6 students at a time to participate. Music is an important tool in helping students to excel in math and reading.

All of the students are 4 years old turning 5.

They aren't quite old enough for Kindergarten, but too old for Preschool. We are learning the basics for school such as their Alphabet, Numbers, Shapes, and Colors. A big part of our day is music and movement. Many of my students come from lower income families and their exposure to the arts is minimal.

My Project

My students will get to participate in music and movement activities using these musical instruments. More importantly, they will ALL get to participate at the same time. Right now we use movement during our songs such as hand clapping, stomping, and trying to snap. These instruments will increase student engagement in the music activities. Students will learn to keep to the beat, use big gross motor movements, and have fun. Studies have shown the importance of music in learning to read and in math.

If you think back to your own Kindergarten experience, I bet you will remember having musical instruments and how much fun making noise with them was.

These instruments will be put to good use with these little ones and hopefully spark a life long love for music.
