Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an AM and PM class, which is a total of 48 students. My classroom is the first taste of school or education these children get to experience. Since all of my students are classified as low income students, the classroom is one of the few opportunities they have to explore freely, use their senses, and learn to love learning. Many of the students are restricted from discovering new interests because of their low income status, as they do not have access to resources that assist in discovery. However, their love of discovery and exploration is visible in every activity they participate in.
Digging, splashing, running, laughing, smiling, and sharing about their day to their parents are all activities you see my students participating in every day.
Their favorite things to do in the classroom is to explore the science area. Give them a magnifying glass or a new responsibility like planting a seed and their eyes will light up with wonder and excitement.
My Project
My students love exploring the science area of our classroom. The addition of a light table in our classroom will allow my students to explore another side of science. Not only will students get to explore a different side of science, but they will also be able to use the light table to build their skills in subjects like mathematics and literacy. This light table will be used when we hold centers in our class as an option for students to use.
Many activities can be done on the light table to support various skills, not to mention that it is a fun activity for my students to do while learning and building their attention span.
Unfortunately, light tables can be on the pricey side and not every student can afford to have one at home. However, it will make a big impact on my students' learning as it can support any subject.
