The students in my room are thirsty for knowledge. They love to be engaged in thoughtful and purposeful instruction. They thrive off of challenging each other in their ideas and learn to listen when their thought process may be confused.
These children are 10 years old and some commute 2-3 hours on public transportation to attend our school.
They come from all over the urban city in which they reside. Their commitment to learning and the hopes of their families is that this education will lead them to success.
However, the district and city in which they live are extremely poor and public education is severely underfunded. The teachers and the school community reach out for many grants and educational opportunities but even with those extras, it is still not enough. The school lacks in many 21st-century technology embedded needs that are the wave of the future and these children deserve, to be competitive in our society. What makes my students so special to me is that even with these lacking resources they still show up to learn every day. This fuels me to seek out resources for them to bring their curiosity and ideas to life.
My Project
Children centered instruction is key in an effective math classroom. Student focus, engagement, and excitement are what makes for a fun, bright and energetic math room! An up to date new laptop is needed to use our classroom Smartboard. The children in my classroom love to present projects; their passion for using our Smartboard to engage their peers in their interactive projects is essential in their effectiveness to be little math instructors and develop their math fluency by applying their conceptual comprehension of their developmental teacher lead math lessons. However, right now we have no working laptop to work our Smartboard properly.
"Pure mathematics is, in its way the poetry of logical ideas" Albert Einstein.
As stated by Albert Einstein mathematics is poetry and in our new and ever-evolving world technology is the new poetry of math.
The children in my classroom come from all over our urban city. The district in which they attend is extremely poverty stricken and financial aid is cut yearly to the district which then effects the children in the classroom with outdated resources. These children come from all over our city and they sacrifice a lot of their time to attend our school. I strive to make their math experience worth their sacrifices. When a piece of technology no longer turns on and is over 10 years old it is not replaced. A laptop is essential for the children in my classroom to tap into their intelligential mathematical minds and infuse paper and pencil with up to date functioning Smartboard technology, which in order to work to it's fullest potential is in need of your help.
